Will Using a Weight Distribution System On a Dodge Durango Increase Tongue Weight Capacity
Question:
I have an older version weight distribution set, Reese SC Weight Distribution System w Sway Control - Trunnion - 10,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW, ITEM # RP66153 that I purchased through etrailer.com. Been very pleased with this purchased. Im planning to order RP58306 along with 3216 to get away from the friction pads. Currently we have a 2018 Dodge Durango SXT that has a hitch weight capacity of 620# and a 6,200# towing capacity. I also have the Air Lift 60824 Air Lift 1000. We have interest in getting a heavier travel trailer than what we already have. The approximate UVW of the trailers of interest are around 5,200#. However, some of the hitch weights are anywhere from 580-675#. The trailer we most like is 675# hitch weight 5,156 UVW. With our weight distribution system would that allow us to have 675# hitch weight or do we absolutely need to stay at or below the 620#? Thank you in advance.

A weight distribution system like the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System part # RP66559 (Replaced Reese SC) is an excellent option for a 2018 Dodge Durango and required for all trailers over 5,000 lbs according to the owner's manual. That said, it will not increase towing capacity nor is there an option for this unfortunately.
Please note, the friction points on the frame are what allows the system to provide trailer sway control.
