Spare Tire Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2000 Honda CR-V

Question:

I have a 2000 CRV and want to carry two road bikes. Many reviewers mention that this rack is REALLY tight to fit two bikes - even though it is supposed to be designed for two. One reviewer mentioned getting Adapter Bars. What do you think? Is that necessary? If so, do I need one bar or two? Is there another rack you can recommend that will accommodate two bikes? Thanks for your help.

First, the adapter bars like # Y02531, would only be needed if the top frame bar on the bike does not go straight across or has an elliptical shape. I have included a link to a video that shows how it works.

The Yakima SpareTime bike rack will fit your 2000 Honda CR-V if the tire size is between P195mm and 12.5 inch width.

The cradles on the SpareRide are fixed and you may find that they are too close for some bikes. What I recommend is the Thule Spare Me, # TH963PRO. This rack will fit your CR-V and it has cradles that you can adjust to be further or closer for more space between the bikes. I have linked the installation instructions for you.
