Recommended 4-Pole to 7-Way Trailer Connector Adapter
Question:
Hello, I have a car with a 4-flat female trailer wiring connector. My trailer has a 7-spade, round female wiring connector. Two questions, if you will: 1. Is this the right adapter from a mechanical perspective? 2. If I only care about the 4 wire functions, can I just leave the extra wires unattached and have the adapter work? thanks

The # HM47200 would indeed adapt your existing 4 pole to a 7-way blade-style trailer connector. In that respect, it would work just fine.
However, I typically recommend going with the # 37185 instead, as the adapter also offers a 4-pole connector. If your trailer doesn't have or need trailer brakes or a need for a 12-v power supply, you'd simply plug the adapter into your existing 4-pole, and ground the white tire to the vehicle frame. This will provide you with lighting functions, and you could just bundle up the remaining wires and secure them so they're out of the way. Another benefit? The # 37185 also includes a mounting bracket which isn't included with the # HM47200.
