Yes, the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 is a great brake controller for your 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Its clear and customizable LCD screen is great to have. And being a proportional brake controller it will be able to automatically adjust braking to your boat trailer based on your braking force.
To complete the installation of the brake controller you will need a Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This will give you the 7-way plug and provide you with wiring to install the brake controller in your Jeep.
If you don't already have a 4-way from when you installed the trailer hitch then the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118727 will allow you to tap into the taillights of your Jeep to provide you with the correct lighting. This will plug directly into the 7-way kit to make installation easier.
