Can C E Smith Trailer Spare Tire Mount # CE27310G Be Mounted Upside-Down
Question:
I recently purchased a Sure-Trac Utility Trailer with a square tube top rail. I am looking for a spare tire mount that can be mounted to the top rail and the center of the wheel to about mid point of the 13 inch risers that support the top rail. I cant mount on a rail riser because their position is not in the right place. Could the C E Smith mount be attached in upside down instead of hi-rise position to acomplish lowering the wheel and eliminating some of the above rail exposure of the spare tire by keeping the profile low? Or is there any other style that would allow no rise or lowering of the spare. I also wondered if the Fulton HI Rise mount could be inverted as well. I suspect the big question qould be the strength integrity of the unit. We will be carring kayaks on a rack above the rail which will allow trailer deck usage for carring camping and other gear thus the need for spare tire low profile. A tongue mount will not work because of clearence tow vehicle to trailer issues. We would be grateful for any suggestions That you can give.

The CE Smith Trailer Spare Tire Mount could indeed be mounted in an upside-down orientation if you wish to do so. Keep in mind that this spare tire carrier is only compatible with 4 lug wheels or 5 lug wheels with a 4-1/2 inch bolt circle.
Most of the spare tire carriers can be mounted upside down, with the exception of the Fulton Hi Mount # FHDSTC0101.
If you would care to tell me the diameter and bolt pattern of your wheel, I can provide some recommendations that are more specific.

Ordered the CE Smith Spare Tire Carrier a few days ago along with some other items. The merchandise was delivered by UPS today a couple of days ahead of the anticipated delivery date. The carrier appears to be exactly what I was looking for and will be mounted upside down as we discussed earlier. Thanks again for the information.
