Recommended Bike Rack Solution for a 2017 Toyota Tundra with Less Than 8 From the Hitch Pin Hole
Question:
I measured from the pin hole back and I can’t get 8 inches without hitting the spare tire. Will this work or do I have to remove the spare tire?

Expert Reply:
If you have less than 8" of clearance from the hitch pin hole of your 2017 Toyota Tundra, then you have thee choices.
For the Hollywood Racks Destination, part # HR4000, to be used, you can remove the spare tire.
Or, you can keep the spare tire on and use a hitch extender like the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 8" Long, part # C45791. It will give 8" of additional clearance, but it will reduce your tongue weight by 50%.
Finally, you can opt for another bike rack with a longer shank. A good one is the Yakima HoldUp, part # Y02443-2. It can handle 4 bikes up to 50 pounds each, and the closest part of the rack to the hitch pin hole is 12" when unfolded but only 7" when folded.
If folding it when not in use is important, take a look at the Saris Freedom Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount - Tilting # SA4414B. It has 13-1/2 inches of clearance and 10 inches when folded. If you go with this rack, I suggest adding locks # SA3022 and # SA981, since locks are not included with this one.
