Is the TorkLift Cannon Hitch Extension TLE1648 Weight Distributing?

Question:

The video indicates the product as a “weight distribution” design, I’m assuming via the chains and turnbuckles. So if used as designed with these is the tounge weight 600lbs? I may be confusing this with my travel trailer weight distribution hitch that distributes the load somewhat differently than this unit. Please explain the difference between the weight distribution aspects. Thanks

The TorkLift Cannon Hitch Extension - 3" Ford Super Duty Factory Hitch - 48" Long # TLE1648 you were looking at itself is not weight distributing, the chains and turnbuckles used are to keep the extension stable.

When used with a standard hitch, the tongue weight rating is 300lbs and the trailer weight rating is 3000lbs, but if you do used a weight distribution hitch the ratings are increased to the 600lb tongue weight you mentioned, and 6000lb trailer weight rating.

The reason for this is a weight distribution hitch distributes the tongue weight of the trailer across all axles of your tow vehicle and trailer putting a bit less stress on the hitch itself. This extension does not distribute any weight, it only extends the hitch for additional turning clearance and is often used to allow the tail gate to be down when towing, or for trucks with an in-bed camper.

The # TLE1648 is designed for the 2017 and newer Ford Super Duty trucks with the factory 3" trailer hitch receiver, so If that is what your tow vehicle is this will work perfectly.

I included a video of the # TLE1648 for you to take a look at.
