Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller to a 2001 Ford Escape with Factory Tow Package
Question:
I am buying a small travel trailer that I will be pulling with my 2001 Ford Escape v6 with tow package. My truck wiring is 4-way and the trailer is 7-way. What do I need to make this work?

You will need to add a 4 to 7-Way adapter on your 2001 Ford Escape since the trailer has a 7-Way. And since the trailer does have a 7-Way it most likely has electric brakes. In order to get all the lights and the trailer brakes to work you will need to use the 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7.
This kit comes with everything you will need to add a 7-Way and the wiring to hardwire in a brake controller. For a brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. It is reliable, easy to set up, and easy to use. I have included a link to the installation details for the brake controller.
I have also included some links that explain the ETBC7 installation for you. The vehicle in the video is not an Escape but it will be very similar to your Escape.
