Since you already have a hitch on your 2008 Honda Pilot, you're well on your way to being prepared for your trip; from what I was able to find with some research, the 2008 Pilot has a towing capacity of between 3500 and 4500-lbs. So your 2800-lbs trailer should not be an issue, but I do recommend checking the owner's manual to get the confirmed towing capacity of your vehicle. There are some other parts you'll need, both required to tow and optional. When it comes to required parts, you'll need a wiring harness, ball mount, hitch ball, hitch pin and clip.

For wiring, I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One # 118336 which will be easy to install and Tekonsha harnesses are extremely reliable. You can complete your towing setup with a ball mount kit like the # EBMK4, which gives you a ball mount that can be used in either a 2-3/4" rise or 4" drop, a 1-7/8" and 2" hitch ball, hitch pin, clip and storage bag. This would give you all of the parts required to tow a trailer with your 2008 Honda Pilot.

When it comes to optional parts, adding a transmission cooler to your 2008 Pilot would definitely help with the long trip you're getting ready to undertake. I recommend adding the Derale # D13503, which is a plate fin cooler that will help disperse heat better than the tube fin coolers. This is a universal type cooler so it will fit on a variety of vehicles including your 2008 Pilot and will do a great job at keeping your transmission in good shape over the course of your trip. There is not a power steering cooler that will fit on your Pilot available, but it's by no means required.

I've linked some review videos of these parts for you to check out.
