Utility Trailer Built with 6000 Lb Dexter Axle
Question:
My utility trailer is built on a 6000 Lb Dexter axle that does not have the 5 bolt flange to mount the backing plate. Rather, the brake components are welded directly to the axle housing and the shoes appear to be permanently bonded to a welded part. How can I replace the shoes or the entire brake assembly.

I recommend the Dexter Electric Brake Kit for 4 Bolt or 5 Bolt Flange, 12" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies for 6K, # 23-105-106-09. If you have a modified axle with parts that are welded on and do actually need to be removed that will require cutting. At that point I would consider the advantage of buying a new axle vs. removing and replacing multiple parts on an older modified axle. But first, please review the installation video of this product. I think this is what is needed for your trailer, this fits Dexter 6,000 lbs axles with 4 or 5 bolt and wheels from 14-1/2" to 16".
