1996 For Ranger Flare Side Short Bed Flat Towing Equipment

Question:

We have a 36 Fleetwood Southwind motorhome and want to tow a 1996 Ford Ranger Flare Side Short Bed. We wanted to know which parts we would need. The baseplate, tow bar, wiring for lights and the braking hookup. Could you help me with this possibly? Thank you for any help.

For your 1996 Ford Ranger Flare Side Short Bed I recommend the following flat towing items:

Baseplate: Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms Item # 435-3 which is a confirmed fit for your Ford Ranger.

Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar Item # RM-520 which offers a 6,000lbs weight capacity so you can load your truck bed up as well and will match perfectly with # 435-3 baseplates for an easy install.

Wiring for Lights: Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit Item # RM-154 which will allow you to use your Ford Ranger's tail lights and will be run right through your frame rail and into your rear lights so that you don't have wires hanging all over the truck or have to buy separate lights that sit on the truck and could scratch the paint.

Braking Hookup: Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System Item # RM-8700 which is a permanent one time set up instead of a portable system that you'd have to set up every time you want to go camping.

You'll need Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles Item # RM-88400 for the lights and breaking system since your running off of a diode system.

You'll want to make sure to also get some safety chains which I RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables item # RM-643 to ensure everything is properly secured.

All of these products are Roadmaster branded products so you won't have to worry about buying any extra adapters to match between different brands. I've attached some videos that go over installation and also some helpful tips.
