Does 2015 Ford F-150 Towing Travel Trailer With 4700lb GVWR Need A Weight Distribution Hitch?
Question:
I have a 2015 F150 3.5L SuperCrew with max trailer tow package. Looking at towing a travel trailer 21ft that is 3700lb dry weight, max 4700 loaded. Can I get away with just a sway control bar or do I need a WD hitch. Can you recommend one of both so I can compare? Thanks so much!

It is always a good idea to use a weight distribution system when the weight of your trailer exceeds 50% of the weight of your tow vehicle.
Since your 2015 Ford F-150 SuperCrew with the 3.5L EcoBoost and Max Trailer tow Package weighs up to 4900lbs depending on the options, and your trailer has a GVWR of 4700lbs a weight distribution hitch would be my recommendation.
Starting with a sway control bar option you would need the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 which will bolt to the frame of your trailer, and the Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2" Ball Mounts # RP26003 which will attach to your current ball mount and give you the mounting point needed for the sway bar.
The option I recommend is going with a weight distribution system which will help to level your tow vehicle by distributing the weight of your trailer across all of the axles of your truck and trailer to improve handling and braking performance.
To determine the correct weight distribution system you will need to confirm the total tongue weight of your setup. Total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to tow trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your F-150. The easiest way to get an accurate tongue weight measurement is with a tongue weight scale like the # e99044 but there are other methods which are outlined in the included help article.
Since you mentioned that your trailer has a GVWR of 4700lbs, and tongue weight typically is 10-15% of the trailer weight you should see between 470-705lbs tongue weight with the trailer fully loaded.
For a system that fits that range I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 8,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW # FA92-00-0800 which works with total tongue weights ranging from 400-800lbs and includes built in 2-point sway control to keep your trailer going straight down the highway. This option does not include a hitch ball so you will need 2" hitch ball # A-90 or 2-5/16" hitch ball # 19286 to match the coupler on your trailer.
If you find that your total tongue weight exceeds 800lbs you will need to step up to the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # FA92-00-1000 which works with total tongue weights ranging from 600-1000lbs. This option also does not include a hitch ball so you will still need 2" # A-90 or 2-5/16" # 19286 to match your coupler.
I included videos for the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
