Determining The Parts Needed To Add Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Brakes To 2021 Grand Design 290BH

Question:

I am considering changing my drum brakes on my 2021 Grand Design 290BH to disc. Do you have a kit or set up to do this?

We do offer a few disc brake conversion kits, but to confirm which one will fit your 2021 Grand Design 290BH I will need to know the axle rating of your axles, and which inner and outer bearings your current hubs use.

To determine the axle rating you will need to check the axle tag located on the center of the axle facing rearward, and the axle rating will be on this tag. If you want to send me a picture of the tag that would be perfect.

Now to determine which inner and outer bearing your hubs use you will need to remove one of your current hubs and look for the bearing numbers stamped in the face of each bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649.

For example the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 12" Hub/Rotor - 6 on 5-1/2 - Dacromet/KodaGuard - 5,200 to 6,000 lbs # K2HR526DKG is for 5200-6000lb axles, uses the same 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern as your trailer, and uses inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 15123. If this matches your bearing combination and axle rating this would be a great option.

To complete the install you will also need HydraStar Hydraulic Brake Line Kit - Tandem Axle - 24' # HS496-252, HydraStar Vented Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes # HS381-8067, and Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger # 20400.

Lastly you will need to make sure that your trailer brake controller is compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes. If it is not I recommend taking a look at the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195.

If you can send me your bearing information and axle rating I would be happy to confirm the correct components for you to trailer.

I included a few videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
