Recommended Locking Roof Rack to Carry Fly Fishing Rod Carrier on 2016 Toyota 4Runner
Question:
I have a 2016 Toyota 4 Runner, Trail Plus with raised roof rails running front to back. Love the Evo Wing Roof cross bars by Thule but the spec says the feet are non-locking. Im mounting a flyrod quiver and need the system to be secure from theft. What are my options? Thank you!

Instead of the Thule roof rack system you can use the Yakima Roof Rack kit that uses parts # Y00425 and # Y33TR, which has aerodynamic bars like the Thule Wing Bar Evo # TH711400. The differences is that the Yakima towers can be locked to your 2016 Toyota 4Runner using the Yakima Same Key System Locks # Y07204. I actually prefer this Yakima system for raised side rails for the reason you've mentioned; the Thule Rapid Crossroads feet can't be locked and really aren't secure, and there's not any difference in quality across Thule to Yakima parts.
Yakima also makes a really cool fly rod carrier called the DoubleHaul # Y04087 that you may want to have a look at. This carrier holds 4 fly rods and is also lockable, so it's a really nice compliment to your Yakima roof rack. Instead of the # Y07204 you'll want to get the # Y07206 so that all of your locks are keyed alike and you'll only need a single key to open everything.
I've linked some review videos of all of these parts for you to check out.
