For a trailer hitch, the Curt # C13272 Class III hitch would be my recommendation. I prefer the finish Curt uses on their trailer hitches.
For a trailer wiring harness, I'd go with the Curt # C56217. For a ball mount, use # C45010 and # 63845 for a trailer ball.
Rental trailers will use an adjustable coupler, so it'll work fine with the 2 inch trailer ball I recommended. If the trailer is large enough to require brakes (above 1500 lbs, I believe) the trailer will have a surge coupler, which means that the braking force of the vehicle will cause the coupler to compress which actuates the hydraulic brakes. You won't need a brake controller, just the hitch, ball mount, trailer ball and the basic wiring harness to provide the trailer access to the vehicle's taillight circuits.
