Will Saris SA4025F SuperClamp EX Bike Rack Clear Bumper of 2016 Buick Envision

Question:

Can you confirm if I would need some kind of extension the following? Watching your install videos on part C13292 for my 2016 Buick Envision I noted the clearance measurements you referenced. I want to use a Saris Freedom EX-2 Bike Hitch Rack. Thanks

I'm a little confused about the specific bike rack you're speaking of. Are you speaking of the Saris SuperClamp EX 2, part # SA4025F or the Saris Freedom 2, part # SA4412B? These are two different bike racks. The Freedom 2 doesn't tilt rearward for access to the rear of the vehicle, and holds the bikes by the seat post or top tube. The SuperClamp EX 2 holds the bikes by the tires, and can fold up against the rear of the vehicle for storage and can tilt rearward away from the vehicle with the bikes installed to allow some access to the vehicle's cargo area.

When we installed the Curt Class III hitch, part # C13292 on a 2016 Buick Envision (see linked video), we found that the hitch pin hole was recessed by 6 inches under the bumper. When installed, the closest portion of the Saris SuperClamp EX 2, part # SA4025F will be 8-1/4 inches rearward of the hitch pin hole, so it will clear the bumper. When folded into the storage position up against the rear of the vehicle, the closest portion of the rack will be 7-1/4 inches rearward of the hitch pin hole, so it'll just clear the rear of the vehicle.

The Saris Freedom 2, part # SA4412B has a distance of 12 inches between the hitch pin hole and the closest portion of the rack, which is the inside edge of the wheel tray.

You wouldn't need an extender for either rack, which is a good thing because the bike rack manufacturers don't recommend using them.

I've linked to an install video for the hitch, as well as to demonstration videos for the SuperClamp EX and the Saris Freedom bike racks.
