Parts Needed to Tow 5th Wheel Trailer With 5 Foot 7 Inch Bed on 2014 Ram 1500

Question:

Hi I have a ram 1500 crew cab 4x4 outdoorsman with 3:5:5 rear v6 and I need a 5th wheel hitch for it. It has a 5'7" bed. I only need a hitch capable of 8200 lbs for the 5th wheel. I saw something about a king pin extender or slider to make turns with the short bed and I would like the cheapest option possible for the 5th wheel. What all are my options for a hitch? Thanks for any input.

So because you have a 5 foot 7 inch bed, with your 2014 Ram 1500, unless you get a Sidewinder rotating king pin, the 5th wheel trailer will crash into your truck if you make anything resembling a tight turn. While not inexpensive, this is legitimately the only option available to tow with that short of a bed without damaging your truck. That said, we can get you what you need, starting with the 5th wheel hitch, and the most economical hitch and base rail kit for your truck is from Curt:

- Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16115

- Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16444-204

- Sidewinder Wedge for Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # C16991

Then you will need a Sidewinder, and the correct one will depend on the pin box your 5th wheel trailer has.

- Lippert 1716, 1116, and 0115: Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret # RP77FR

- Lippert 0719, 1621 and 1621HD, Fabex 663 and 665, or M&M 663 and 665: Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret # RP34FR

The other thing you will need is a 5th wheel wiring harness if you do not have one, the Pollak 5th Wheel / Gooseneck T-Connector with 7-Pole # PK11893-11932.

I have added links below to video reviews and instructions for you to check out as well if you'd like.
