For a hitch, I'd recommend the Curt Class III, part # 13077 as the etrailer brand # e98840 you'd looked at isn't a fit. For a ball mount, use # 2753 and # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball.

For the trailer connector and brake controller, I'd recommend using a wireless option like the Curt Echo, part
# C51180. The Echo will communicate wirelessly with your smart phone, allowing you to control trailer braking from the vehicle cab without needing to drill into your dash and run tons of wire.

For the trailer connector, you'll start with a 4 pin connector provided by # C56190KIT to access the taillight circuits, then use the 4 pin to 7-way adapter included with the # ETBC7L install kit to provide a 7-way trailer connector. You'll need to ground the adapter to the vehicle frame or chassis and run one wire to the positive battery terminal, but that's the only wiring that would need to be done, it's a pretty simple install which is a good thing because a typical hardwire install on a BMW is quite the undertaking due to the sophisticated electronics the vehicle is equipped with.

I've linked to an install video for the hitch, as well as to videos that explain how the Curt Echo and the
# ETBC7L install kit work.
