Will I Need To Replace Trailer Fenders When Switching From 4.80-12 Tires To 175/80R13 Tires?

Question:

I have a 2017 northern tools 5X8G trailer picture of label information included in unload and was wondering if the 13” tire would fit the trailer without having to upgrade the fender wells?

Since your 2017 Northern Tools 5' x 8' trailer has 4.80-12 tires you will more than likely need to replace the fenders to use the Kenda Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Black Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - LR D # AM31990 you were looking at due to the increased diameter of the tire.

The # AM31990 is roughly 4" taller and 2" wider. The typical clearance we recommend is 4" from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender, and 1-2" from the inside of the tire to the trailer frame. You will be adding 2" to the top of the tire and 1" to the width, so if you currently have 6" from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender, and at least 2" between the frame and inside of the tire you will not have any issues.

If you do need new fenders I recommend the Fulton Single Axle Trailer Fender with Top Step - Black Plastic - 13" Wheels # F008553. You can either reuse your current brackets or replace them with the # PF775-BKT-2.

I included videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
