Correct Yakima Roof Rack For 2018 Ford F-250 Crew Cab
Question:
Hello. Looking at Yakima roof rack for 2018 Ford F-250 crew cab. Trying to determine what I need. How do I figure what bar length to purchase? Is there a disadvantage to racks secured to the roof with clips versus drilled on racks? If there is no difference in a secure mount, why wouldn’t everyone install clip racks instead of drilling into their roof? Thanks for assistance.

Okay, we can get your 2018 Ford F-250 Crew Cab set up with the right Yakima roof rack, and let's start with your first question about the correct length bars. That is determined by the manufacturer when they test fit roof racks, which is how we know the correct length of crossbar for your truck are the 70 inch long bars.
In regards to a disadvantage with the clips/clamp-on versus drilled on racks, there is no disadvantage at all. Really, the only reason someone might use a rack that that requires drilled-on tracks is if there isn't an option for a clamp-on rack. Thankfully, your 2018 F-250 does have a clamp-on option, so no drilling is required, and the parts that will make up a Yakima roof rack for your truck are the following:
- Yakima JetStream Crossbars - # Y00427
- BaseLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y28TR
- BaseClip Fit Kit # Y06185
You made a really good choice to go with the Yakima rack because it is strong, with the ability to carry 165 lbs of gear, super quiet due to the design of the crossbars, easy to use, as well as highly durable. It is so durable, in fact, that every component of this rack comes with a lifetime warranty.
The only thing I recommend is adding locks to secure the roof rack to your F-250 and help protect your investment, which you can do with the Yakima Same Key System (SKS) locks # Y07204.
