Can the steps be installed on a truck with spray in bed liner without any modification?

I spoke with my Convert-A-Ball representative, who tells me that installing the Step Gate # CAB-SG over a plastic bed liner will prevent it from working properly, but installing it over a spray-in liner would be perfectly acceptable, and would not affect the function or performance of the step.
