4 Bike Carrier That Can Be Reduced To 3 Bike Carrier To Save Weight And Space
Question:
Hi - Im looking for a platform hitch rack for 3 bikes primarily, but occasionally 4. 1 MTB, 2 20 inch kids bikes, and a hybrid thats the rare fourth bike. The Thule T2 w add on and Kuat NV w add-on both seem too heavy to deal with, and too large to leave on frequently. I was looking at the Saris SuperClamp 4 or the Kuat Transfer V2 3 bike, with add-on. Im leaning to the Transfer V2 since when the add-on is not attached which will be most of the time, its about the same size as the Saris, a bit lighter, and easier to fit bikes onto since theyre more spread out. Any thoughts between those two, or if there are other options to think about? Thanks! This is on a Chrysler Pacifica w 2 inch hitch

Between the Saris SuperClamp EX 4 Bike Platform Rack # SA4026F and the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack # KU24FR, I would go with the Kuat because it sounds like it will better suit your needs. The Kuat is 12lbs lighter (without add-on) and will be much easier to remove or install on your vehicle than the Saris. This will also be a significantly cheaper setup, even after figuring in the cost of the 1 Bike Add-On # KU57FR. A maximum tire width of 3" is able to be mounted. Use Phat Bike Adapter Kit # APBK if you decide to transport a fat tire bike in the future as this kit holds tires 2.5" - 4.8". Both bike racks do have locking cables to secure the bike to the carrier.
I have attached a video that explains how to use the phat bike adapter kit.
