To add a 7 way trailer connector to your 2002 Chevy S-10 you'll want to use the # ETBC7, which comes with all of the parts needed to install a 7 way using your existing trailer wiring. You will plug your existing 5 way into the 4 way plug on the # ETBC7, and the circuit for the reverse light won't be plugged in, so you'll want to cut that off and connect it to the yellow wire on the # ETBC7. From there, you'll need to run wires to the battery and up to the front of the truck and through the firewall into the cab to give you a brake controller output wire.
You could also use the # ETBC7L, which would not require the connection of the brake controller output wire, but you would need to use a wireless brake controller like the Curt Echo # C51180. This is a great solution for vehicles that don't have plug and play brake controller adapters that can be used to make installation easy and it provides responsive proportional braking for your trailer.
I've linked some review and installation videos of these parts for you to check out, as well as some of our helpful articles on wiring a 7 way on your vehicle that you can refer to during the installation process.
