How Accurate Are Valve Stem Temperature And Pressure Sensors

Question:

How accurately does a stem mounted sensor measure the internal tire and wheel temperature? It seems that the actual internal temperature will be much higher than would be sensed by a sensor out in the air.

Expert Reply:

A tire temperature and pressure monitoring system, such as the TireMinder A1AS TPMS for RVs and Trailers w/ Signal Booster - Bluetooth - 4 Tire Sensors # TM49FR, gives very accurate readings to tell you if the tire has a puncture and is losing air or if the temperature is above the normal operating range due to an overheating brake caliper or wheel bearing. This system runs a test every 6 seconds to check the temperature and pressure of the tire. The sensors are threaded into the valve stem and have a strong O-ring seal; this way it is taking readings only from the air inside the tire, not letting outside air affect it.

I attached a demonstration video for you to check out.
