For the black wire connecting the battery to the brake controller I would use the Deka # 12-1-1 primary brake wire in 12 gauge size. Pair that with a Pollack # PK54530 breaker rated for 30 Amp.

If you only have the flat 4-pole connector now and want to upgrade to a traditional 7-pin connector which includes the 12 volt aux. power line along with the 12-volt break power line, I would get the etrailer # ETBC7 kit that includes everything you will need for a complete professional job.

This kit, and most like it, have a plug on the back of the 7-pin connector where the old 4-pole connector plugs in. It is a good idea to use the Edlemann # 11755 Dielectric grease to keep that connection free of moisture, grit, and rust. Also, you will be making a lot of crimped connections. If you do not already have a good crimper you will want to get the Performance Tools # PTW30764 crimping pliers. It makes a strong connection every time!
