Brake Controller Wiring Harness to Install Reese Towpower 8508211 in 2019 Ford Flex

Question:

I have a Reese Towpower 8508211 Brake Control that has been in my Chevy Colorado. I want to move to my 2019 Ford Flex. Is there a wiring harness that would connect to the p prewiring in the Ford?

The Reese Towpower 8508211 is like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90885 that we offer.

For a 2019 Ford Flex with the factory tow package, you'd want to use the # 22292 brake controller wiring harness which would plug into the connector clipped to the back of the storage pocket located just to the right of the steering column as shown in the provided photo. The connector will only be there if the vehicle is equipped with the factory tow package, if the Flex doesn't have the 7-way trailer connector at the rear bumper, the vehicle is NOT prewired for a brake controller and you'll need to hardwire the controller.

In order to hardwire the controller, you'll first need a functioning 4 pin trailer connector. If the vehicle isn't equipped with one, you'll need to install one using part # 118472. You'll also need the # ETBC7 brake controller install kit. The kit includes all the wire, circuit breakers and hardware needed to complete the installation, including the 7-way adapter that would plug into the existing 4-pin trailer connector (or the one provided by the # 118472). You'll also need the # 20127 pigtail so you'll be able to easily unplug the brake controller if needed and the # 20059 mounting bracket if you'd like to be able to switch the controller back and forth between the Flex and the Colorado.

I've linked to an install video for the # 118472 and to instructions for the # ETBC7 kit. I've also linked to an article about brake controllers that you might find helpful.
