Converting a 4-Way Trailer Connector to a 7-Way on a 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Question:

I currently have a 4 pin connector on a 2014 FJ cruiser. I installed a C55567 Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. I need to connect with a 7 pin, round, on a travel trailer. What is the best option to adapt a 4 pin to 7 pin. Is the following the best option? - Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector Item # 30717 Or is there a better option? If i am connecting a 4 pin to a 7 pin connecter, can i just plug the 4 pin to the 4 pin, or do I have to run the other 3 wires and ground. ?

The # 30717 is exactly what you're looking for as long as you don't need the 7-way to supply anything other than lights on the trailer. You just plug the 4-ways together, connect the white ground wire to the vehicle's frame using the included screw, and cap off the other wires.

If you need the other functions of the 7-way, such as if the trailer has electric brakes or needs a constant 12-volts for power, the instead your best option is our # ETBC7 kit. This kit includes the adapter similar to the # 30717 plus everything else you need to make the other connections. If you also need a brake controller take a look at the Primus IQ, part # TK90160.

I've linked two videos from when we installed the # ETBC7 on an FJ Cruiser. It's an older model year but the process is the same. The videos are the same install split into two parts.
