How To Install A Tekonsha Brake Controller On 2002 GMC Yukon XL With Tow Package
Question:
I have a Tekonsha Voyager brake controller with 4 bare wires. I am trying to install on a 2002 GMC Yukon XL with trailer pkg. I have the factory pigtail with 5 bare wires. I cannot seem to figure out how to connect with wires to get the appropriate controls. Is there a diagram somewhere I am not finding to ensure proper installation? Thanks!

Since you already have the tow package on your 2002 GMC Yukon XL, you should only need the brake controller and controller harness adapter.
If you have the Tekonsha Voyager controller already, then you just need to make sure you have the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3025-P. One end of this harness/adapter will connect to your brake controller, and the other end will simply plug into your electric junction box underneath the dash.
If your vehicle for some reason does not have the junction box plug-in underneath the dash, then you will want to test each of the bare wires on your vehicle for function by using a circuit tester tool, such as the Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993.
The wire that has power ONLY when brakes are applied will connect to the controller's red wire (brake input).
The white controller wire is ground, the black controller wire is power, the blue controller wire is brake output to trailer.
I have attached photos and an installation video that will help with this process.
