Turn Signals Not Working on an Accessory Connected to a 1998 Dodge Ram Pickup

Question:

I have a 98 Ram pickup with all incandescent lights. Added hitch accessory with LED lights. The tail lights work on truck and acc., but the turn signals will not work on truck or acc. Will I have to change the truck bulbs? Or add a capacitor in line or something of the sort?

There is a possibility that this problem is due to mixing incandescent lights with LEDs, but this is unlikely.

More likely is this being a grounding issue with the wiring. Usually, when one function is not working while others are, this points to a problem with how the ground is connected.

Check the connection point of your accessory's ground wire to ensure that it is free of corrosion or rust. If you find any, clean the area or move the connection to a cleaner spot. Check your vehicle's connector as well.

If there is no problem there, inspect the wires to ensure there are no frays or pinches. If you find any, replace the wire.

If none of these work, check the other functions on your vehicle with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to see if these are working correctly. I've linked to a help article regarding troubleshooting wiring.

If the wiring is not the problem, let me know and I will help you further.
