Tow Bar and Accessories for Flat Towing a 2004 Jeep Wrangler Behind Motorhome

I recently purchased a 2004 Jeep Wrangler that I want to tow behind my motorhome. I previously towed a 1986 Jeep CJ7 with a Reese Tow Champ #74950 tow bar with a 5000# rating and it had plates that attached to the factory bumper. I never had a problem with this setup and towed for over 50,000 miles. My question is...can I still use this kind of setup with the 2004 Wrangler? If so, what modifications and parts would I need? You can use a tow bar like the Tow Ready # 63180 to tow your 2004 Wrangler, but keep in mind, the tow bar is NOT rated for speeds above 45 mph, so I'd recommend a different setup.

In order to run at highway speeds, I recommend using a tow bar like the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, part # RM-520 and base plate kit # RM-521424-4 which is compatible with OEM double tube bumpers. You will also need a set of safety cables like # RM-643.

The Wrangler will also need to be wired for towing. There are several options, ranging from a temporary magnetic mounted towing light to a plug and play option like the Hopkins # HM56202. I will link you to the various available options as well as to a FAQ article that explains the different alternatives. If you're using anything that connects to the Jeep's wiring directly you'll need a relay # RM-88400 as well.

My research indicates that the 2004 Wrangler is indeed capable of being flat towed, but I'd urge you to confirm that for yourself by consulting the owner's manual or Jeep.

You will also need a supplemental braking system. Just like the wiring, there are many different options, which you can see by clicking the provided link. For ease of use after the initial install I recommend the DUO # SM99251.
