Parts Needed to Raise Trailer Height and Improve Ride on Single Axle Trailer With 3,500 lb Axle
Question:
Good morning! I have a 2018 single axle, Homesteader Intrepid enclosed trailer, and I’m looking for a practical way to improve the ride of the trailer mainly under load as well as raise the ride height about 2-3”. Are there any good options out there for both height and performance? Sumo Springs seem like an interesting option, but I’m not sure how much extra height I would gain. I know that spacers/blocks are an economical way to gain some height, but I’d like to know if there are any other options that may help improve how the trailer pulls, too. Thanks

We can definitely get you set up to add height to your trailer and improve its ride at the same time, though there isn't a singular part that will do both simultaneously so you'll need a couple of things, one to add the height you are looking for and the other to improve your ride.
Let's start with raising your trailer, and from what I saw online, your 2018 Homesteader is equipped with a 3,500 lb Dexter axle, so the best way for you to add height is with the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00.
What this does is moves your trailer's leaf springs to the top of your axle and lifts your trailer approximately the same amount as your axle's diameter plus the height of the leaf spring pack, so you'll be getting at least a few inches of added height.
This is also called flipping the axle, and what it will do is allow you to use the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs with Line Relocation Bracket - Single Axle - 3K to 5K - Overslung # TSS-107-40.
The SumoSprings won't add a significant amount of height, but will do a nice job of giving you an improved ride with their micro-cellular construction, which means they will depress (independently on both sides) when a load is added. This is going to help give you a smoother ride as well as a more controlled ride as your trailer will be more evened out on both sides as the springs both compress and absorb shock.
The combination of these two parts is going to give you the exact upgrade you need with a raised height and improved performance. I have added a photo a customer sent in that shows this exact set up so you can see what it would look like on your trailer. I have also added links below to instructions and video reviews for you to check out if you'd like.
