Is It Possible To Fit A 1 1/4" Bike Rack On A 2" Hitch?

Question:

Hi, I have a new Yakima bike rack for my Honda CR-V but will be replacing it with a 2021 Toyota Venza and the bike rack component that goes into the hitch is 1.25. The hitch on here for 2021 Toyota Venza says it is a 2 hitch. Is there a way to get that towing hitch to accommodate my bike rack that fits properly and not toggle back and forth because it only has 1.25 diameter of the component that goes into the hitch. Thanks, Todd

The only option we have for the 2021 Toyota Venza is a 2" hitch. If you want to keep your bike rack, I recommend you look into the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C89UR. This is a USA-made hitch that is high quality and easy to install, no welding required.

In order to use your 1 1/4" bike rack with this 2" hitch, using a hitch adapter such as the Curt Receiver Adapter # C45770 would be a great option. The only downside to this would be that the hitch capacity is reduced by 50%. For example, the Curt Hitch # C89UR mentioned above has a max tongue weight of 200lbs, therefore, you would not want to exceed the new weight limit of 100lbs.

As long as the bike rack weight and the weight of your bike does not exceed 100lbs, you will not have an issue.

I will also recommend the Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack # C18085, which is a tilting 2 bike rack that is able to be mounted to a 1 1/4" hitch or a 2" hitch. With this, you would not need the Curt # C45770 adapter, therefore you would be able to exceed 100lbs.
