Troubleshooting Grating Noise When Grand Design 5th Wheel Is Connected To B&W Companion

Hello! We just bought a new Grand Design 5th wheel with a BandW Companion hitch. Last time we hooked up there was a loud grating noise while driving, not sure if its from the hitch itself or the pinbox? Since its a new set-up there should be no maintenance issues so any ideas on causes for this noise welcome. Thanks

I reached out to B&W about the grating noise you are hearing when your Grand Design 5th Wheel is connected to your B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W.

My contact mentioned that he hasn't heard of many issues regarding noise coming from their hitch, but recommends using a multi-purpose grease to coat the inside of the jaws which will prevent any noise that may be coming from the jaws being metal on metal with the king pin. If you do not have any multi-purpose grease you can use # L11316.

The other thing he mentioned was to make sure you are using either a lube plate or grease on the skid plate. The Lube Plate # RP83002 will work great or you can use grease if you prefer.

Both of these steps should prevent any noise the hitch may be causing.
