Where To Connect Curt Stabilizing Strap On 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI W/ Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver
Question:
I would like to install the Curt #11412 Class 1 trailer hitch on my 2018 VW GTI Autobahn for use with a Saris Freedom bike rack. The website recommends the use of 2 tie down straps. The attachment point for the straps is likely the front of the spoiler on the rear hatch. This spoiler is plastic, not steel. Im concerned about the strength of this with two straps attached. Also, what keeps the straps tight when road bumps are encountered? Thanks

I can definitely understand your concern with the Curt Stabilizing Strap # 18050 having to be attaching to the spoiler on your 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI Autobahn, but there is a better place you can attach the straps to avoid any contact with the body of your car.
Since attaching the strap to the spoiler of your car would not be very secure, you can actually just attach the hook end of the straps to the safety chain loops of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11412 you were looking at. This will give you the additional stability the # 18050 was designed for, and will not interfere with the body of your car.
The # 18050 will get installed around your Saris Freedom Bike Rack then the hooks will get connected to the safety chain loops, and once you pull the straps tight the cam buckle will keep the strap from coming loose when driving.
I included a video of the Curt # 18050 and Curt # C11412 for you to take a look at.
