Making a Roof Rack System for 2008 Pontiac Montana SV6 Without Raised Rails

Question:

Hi there, I have a 2008 Pontiac Montana SV6. It does not have anything on the roof at all, no mounts/base racks. What product would you suggest? Thank you,

The roof racks made for the 2008 Pontiac Montana SV6 were designed with raised rails in mind since most of the cars of this model came with raised rails. Since the Pontiac Montana was discontinued and had limited production from 2007-2009 its possible you have a different from usual version.

If you can confirm that there are no rails up there or even holes or possible fixed mounting points, I have two more creative solutions.

The first, is the SeaSucker Monkey Bars Roof Rack # 298-SX6000B. These are vacuum cup mounted crossbars. SeaSucker has awesome equipment and they are proud of the strength of their vacuum cups. It may look strange at firt, but they've done some pretty impressive lift tests. This one has a weight capacity of 150 lbs and I recommend picking up the separate cable anchor # 298-BA0010 and cable lock # e98891 to deter theft.

The regular fit kit for your vehicle WITH raised rails has parts # TH711220 and # TH710401 with 47" crossbars. My suggestion is to manually attach a roof rack system that consists of these parts with a similar bar length:

Yakima Corebar 50" Crossbars # Y00421
SkyLine Towers # Y00152 (2 sets)
Landing Pad 6 # Y00226 (2 sets)

We recently used this system to create a roof rack for a 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon. I attached a video of that install process if you want to check it out. It involves choosing where on your roof you want the bars, drilling mounting points there, then installing the products onto those points. This is for fiberglass roofs and you need a sealant like # LT37467 to seal those drilled holes on your roof.
