Recommended Tire Chains For Mud and Snow In Colorado

Question:

Will the tC2533 chains work for mud and/or snow and why are they listed as on road only? Also, why do many QandA refer to checking with Ram dealer if chains are allowed? Intended use is Colorado elk hunting. Thanks!

I have another option but the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2533 you were looking at will not be the best option for mud due to the use of cams that often come loose when driving on harsh terrain or mud, which is why they are listed as on road only.

The option I recommend is the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains for Wide Base and Dual Tires # TC3229 which has a manual adjustment that does not use cam's that often come loose while driving on harsh terrain and is rated for on and off road use. You will also need Titan Chain Link and Spring Tire Chain Adjuster # TCSA2.

The reason our answers often mention referring to your vehicle's owner's manual or dealer is because some manufacturer's do not allow for tire chains to be used, or will require Class-S chains due to limited clearance between the tire and suspension components or the fender well.

Tire chains are based on tire size, so if you can provide me with the tire size on your vehicle and the Year/Make/Model I would be happy to recommend the correct tire chain for your needs.

I included a video of the products mentioned and a helpful article on Tire Chains for you to take a look at.

Thank you for the information on your 2021 Ram 1500. I looked in the owner's manual for your 2021 Ram 1500 and it mentions that you will need to use Class S tire chains due to the clearance between the tires and your suspension and body components. For the 275/65R20 tires on your Ram I recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2335 which are Class S compatible. These chains will provide great traction in snow and ice, and the diamond pattern chains are great for stopping, starting, and turning due covering more of the tire compared to ladder pattern chains. I included a video of the Titan Chains # TC2335 for you to take a look at.
