Recommended Dimmable LED Strip Lights for 12 Foot Awning on 2013 Thor ACE

Question:

I am looking for an exterior LED light strip to install under the awning on my motorhome. Preferably 12 feet long, changeable colors to include red and white, and dimmable. To install under the awning, the power cord must be long enough to route inside the motorhome to a 12v power source. Any and all electronics such as switches, receivers, etc must be mounted inside the rv near the power source so cannot be factory wired at or near the end of the lights which would have them hanging outside on the wall. Surely this is typical of most awning light installs so I am not sure why this is so hard to find. Please let me know if you stock such an item. Thank you!

I may have a solution for you, but there is not a product that we carry that is going to meet all of the specifications that you're seeking and the biggest issue will be the power cord, which you can work around with an extension cord. The other option would be wiring the light directly to a dimmer switch that can be installed right inside your RV door and routed to a 12v power source to allow you the best solution for this. I'll provide you with the parts for both options.

If you want to go the wired route with a power cord, LED Light Strip Kit with Wireless IR Remote - Weatherproof - Dimmable - 16 Color - 16' Long # DG52688 that comes with everything you need, including a remote. This dimmable LED light strip has red and white lights, among other colors, and can be trimmed down to 12 feet long to fit under your awning. This does come with a 6 foot long power cord, so you would need an extension cord for this, but it's definitely the least labor intensive solution.

If you're looking to create your own system with a switch located inside the coach you would want to start with the LED Light Strip - Weatherproof - Multicolor - 16' Long # DG52680; these lights can be hardwired to a switch like the LED Dimmer Rocker Switch - On/Off - Black # 37215225 to provide you with both power and dimming capabilities on this strip. You would then just need to connect the light switch to your power distribution box; you would need some 10 gauge # 10-1-1 or 12 gauge # 12-1-1 wiring (sold by the foot) and some butt connectors like the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 12-10 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Yellow - Qty 10 # DW05745-10. This would be the more complicated route, but give you a more clean and permanent installation of these lights.

I've linked some review videos of some of these parts for you to have a look at.
