Recommended Cargo Box and Ski Carrier for Roof Rack with 60" Crossbar Spread

Question:

Hello, I have some Yakima bars with a 60” crossbar spread. I would like to mount a cargo box or ski racks. Is this possible? What would I need?

I have some solutions for you, but I'm unaware of a cargo box that will work with a roof rack crossbar system that has a spread of 60"; the good news is that there are some ski racks and cargo baskets that you can use on this system that can help you out.

For a ski rack I recommend using the Rhino Rack # RR573, which will fit on the round bars you've got and can be used at any crossbar spread. This ski/snowboard rack can carry up to 3 pairs of skis or 2 snowboards, and also doubles as a fishing rod carrier in the spring/summer.

Instead of a cargo box, you can use the Yakima OffGrid Roof Cargo Basket - Steel - 75" Long x 49" Wide - 165 lbs # Y07139-09, which is compatible with round crossbars that have up to 60" spread. To make up for the lack of cover that would have been provided with a cargo box, you can add a roof bag like the Rhino-Rack Rooftop Cargo Bag - Waterproof - 17.5 cu ft - 59" x 43" x 11-1/2" # RRLB500. This bag is waterproof and will protect your gear from the elements, so it's great for camping or a trip to the slopes.

I've linked some review videos of these parts for you to have a look at.
