What Are The Factory Trailer Brake Wire Functions On a 2012 GMC Canyon

Question:

I have a 2012 gmc canyon. I found what I think are the trailer brake controller wires under my dash but they are not marked. I have a red,dark blue, black, and light blue. Can you tell me what these are? Do they hook up red to red, black to black, dark blue to dark blue, and WHITE TO LIGHT BLUE?

For your 2012 GMC Canyon the red wire is the 12 volt power, the light blue wire is the cold side of your brake switch, the dark blue wire is the trailer brake controller output, and the black wire is the ground connection.

If you have a trailer brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 you will connect them:

Red vehicle wire to black controller harness wire
Light blue vehicle wire to red controller harness wire
Dark blue vehicle wire to dark blue controller harness wire
Black vehicle wire to white controller harness wire
