To be able to safely tow a vehicle with your 2008 Honda Ridgeline you first need to make sure that the loaded trailer weight does not exceed the towing capacity of your vehicle, and trailer hitch receiver. I researched your vehicle and found that the owners manual lists a max towing capacity of 5000lbs. I also found that Honda requires that any trailer weighing over 1000lbs is equipped with trailer brakes. The 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee weighs approximately 4250 lbs. You will need to find the weight of the trailer you plan on using to make sure you stay under 5000lb max towing capacity of your Ridgeline.
If you do not have a trailer hitch receiver I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13385 as it is made in the USA, and offers a max Gross Towing Weight (GTW) of 5000lbs, and a max Tongue Weight (TW) of 500lbs. I attached the installation video for this on a 2008 Honda Ridgeline like yours.
You will also need a ball mount and hitch ball such as the etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2inch Hitches # 989900, a trailer brake controller and a 7-way vehicle wiring harness.
For a trailer brake controller I recommend the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 as it is easy to install, does not require running wires inside of your vehicle, and can be used on multiple vehicles. I attached the review video for you to look at.
If your Ridgeline doesn't have a factory 7-way connector I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118400 and the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation # ETBC7L for use with the Curt Echo # C51180. I attached videos on these harnesses below for you.
