Will Rota-Flex Pin Box for Lippert 1621 Hit Tailgate When Used With B&W Patriot Slider
Question:
Using a BandW Patriot slider hitch, will the pin box hit the top of my Ford F-350 tailgate when in the rear “slide” position?

Expert Reply:
There is no reason to think your F-350's tailgate will be in any danger when replacing your Lippert 1621 pin box with the Trailair Rota-Flex 5th Wheel Pin Box # LC328330.
The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider # BWRVK3270 is one of the tallest 5th wheel hitches available, with a height of up to 19 inches, which should allow for plenty of space. The Rota-Flex is also just 13-3/8" from the top to the very bottom of the kingpin, and can be adjusted in the bolt holes for the best clearance.
You can also circumvent any potential issues with a 5th wheel tailgate, which will fit your Ford F-350 so long as it is a 1999-2016 model. The tailgates that fit are the Stromberg Carlson 100 Series # VG-97-100 or 4000 Series # VG-97-4000.
