Fifth Wheel Hitch For A 2020 Ram 2500 Pulling A Grand Design Reflection 337RLS

Question:

I am a newbie to 5th wheel camping experience. I was trying to determine what is the most economical sliding hitch. Reading your Q and As it seems that a single jaw is the best way to go. Would you be able to make some suggestions and what your thoughts are on the each hitch.

For your 2020 Ram 2500 pulling a Grand Design Reflection 337RLS I tend to lean more towards a dual jaw. Like the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs Item # C16541 with the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ram Truck - Carbide Finish Item # C16427-204. With doing installs here I have found that the dual jaw has a tighter fit because it has 360 degrees of contact around the pin. This hitch has color indicators so you know when the trailer is ready to uncouple, couple, and tow. The head is self aligning for easy hookups and has an axle bearing to allow the head to pivot in all directions for uneven terrain as apposed to some hitches that only have a front to back and side to side movement. This hitch also has a slide travel of 12" front to back and a height adjustment from 17-1/2" up to 21-1/2". If you are wanting to remove the hitch when not towing, it can be done with one person. The head separates from the base by removing pins and the base separates from the rails by removing pins.

Another option is the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Roller - Slide Bar Jaw - 16,000 Item # 16516 lbs with the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ram Truck - Carbide Finish Item # C16427-204. This hitch has an auto locking slide bar jaw with a rear tension bar that clamps around the pin to minimize rattling. Dual pivoting head with a 10 degrees lateral movement.12" of travel front to back and a height adjustment from 14" up to 17".

Both hitches have a non binding slide feature and pad locks can be added for security. With your setup, either of these hitches would work great but again in my opinion with having experience in installing them and using them, I recommend going with the Curt A20. Your complete towing experience is going to be a lot better from hooking up to disconnecting to actually towing the camper.
