How to Prevent Corrosion & Replacementf 7-Way for 2015 Nissan Pathfinder
Question:
I installed this part a few years ago on my pathfinder and my 7 way pin stopped sending a signal to the trailer via the brake controller, so i lost trailer brakes. After testing the brake controller, the wiring, and the trailer brakes all ok I disassembled the 7 way connector itself. The blue wire tested 12 volts, but the grey harness piece that fits into the 7 way plate had corrosion on the inside just on the brake pin. Why would only that one pin corrode while the others including the 12 volt constant stayed fine? Can I rewire the harness into a new 7way connector? How do I prevent this from happening again. Thanks

There isn't a specific reason why corrosion has built up on just one pin of your 2015 Nissan Pathfinder's 7-way, and this can unfortunately be a common occurrence. Moisture and dirt particles build up and create the corrosion, and it just so happened to be on this one pin. The good news is, you can replace just the 7-way connector with the Replacement 7-Way # A10-7072VP.
This will plug right in without any issue whatsoever. You can also protect this 7-way and your connector from any future corrosion easily with Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors # 11755.
Using this will help keep out moisture and increase the durability and lifespan of your 7-way.
