Wiring 2000 Dodge Dakota for Brake Controller
Question:
Is there and after market harness to bring tail lights, brakes lights, lights from front of truck to back for a 7 plug trailer hookup. I know from the dealer I can order one that would just plug right in, for brake controller and all. It only has the 4 plug light hook up and I think it would be more convent just to run a complete new harness I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4

The 2000 Dodge Dakota will not have the quick connector under the dash for installing a brake controller unless it was factory equipped with the OEM 7-way trailer connector. I am unaware of anything a dealer might offer that would change this.
Without the under-dash connector, the brake controller would need to be hardwired into the existing vehicle wiring using our Brake Controller Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. This would be a more involved installation than simply plugging the controller in under the dash, but it is certainly doable.
The install kit includes everything needed to install a brake controller, even the adapter that would convert your existing 4-pole trailer wiring harness to a 7-way.
If you have not already chosen a brake controller, I can highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885.
I have linked you to an FAQ article that explains how the Install Kit is used, as well as an install video showing the install kit being used to install a controller on a 2009 Dakota. The procedure for your 2000 Dakota would be almost identical.
