7-Way Trailer Connector Installation for 2014 Ford Edge

Question:

I do NOT need a trailer brake connection BUT I need the auxiliary power wire to be hot. My EDGE already has a 4 wire connector. What do I need to buy and do. One mechanic told me “there is not kit for a 2014 Ford Edge, so you need to hard wire it, and doing that may create problems with your cars computer”. What do you say?

You will need to hardwire in a connector, but it'll be super-easy. You'll just need to run one wire from the rear of the vehicle up to the positive battery terminal via a 40A circuit breaker. We have a kit set up just for this situation, the part number is # ETBC7L.

The kit includes an adapter to convert the existing 4-pin to a 7-way. The adapter will have 4 additional wires. The blue wire and purple wire won't be needed in your situation, so you can just bundle those up our of the way. The white wire would ground to the vehicle frame or chassis and the black wire would be extended with the black wire included in the kit and would be ran to the positive battery terminal with the included 40A breaker installed inline.

This installation won't have any effect on the vehicle computer since it will draw power directly from the battery. I've linked to a video that explains how the # ETBC7L kit works.
