Trailer Wiring for a 2009 Honda Pilot EX that Did Not Come with Factory Wiring
Question:
I dont have the wiring on my car. Im looking to pull a 4x8 trailer across country with my Pilot. I need to get a ball and the harness to make it work. Can you point me to the correct harness that I will need? Im not replacing any wiring, this will be a completely new install. Thank you in advance.

For a 2009 Honda Pilot with no factory wiring you will need Tow Ready wiring harness # 118491. This will come with everything you will need to add a 4-Way trailer wiring harness to the vehicle. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a link to a video showing a typical installation for you.
it looks like the 2009 Pilot came with a factory trailer hitch. In order to get the right ball mount mount and ball there are some measurements you will need to take. I have incldued a link to an FAQ article that explains how to measure and a link to our ball mount main page.
For a ball you will need to go by what the coupler requires. The most common ball sizes are 1-7/8 inch diameter, 2 inch, and 2-5/16 inch. For a 1-7/8 the most popular ball is # 19256 and for a 2 inch it is # 19258. For a 2-5/16 inch the most popular is # 19286. You will have to make sure that the ball mount you choose has a ball hole diameter that is compatible with the ball you choose.
