Question:
How do you turn off the auto head lights and is it possible to use lights manually?

If you are talking about the day time running lights you can disable them by pressing the dome light override button 4 times within 6 seconds. You should hear a chime. However this has to be done every time the ignition is turned off and turned back on again.
This should also disable the automatic head lights that would come on when it gets dark enough. You would then need to manually switch the headlights on when required. I found this information in the owners manual, section 2-50, for a 2000 GMC Sierra.
