The converter box (black) in the trailer wiring harness # C56331 takes the separate brake and turn signals on the vehicle and combines them to a combined signal that is used by the trailer. The converter box or logic box contains circuitry designed to distinguish between the brake and turn signals and combine them to a single circuit on the output side.

Since the turn signals are working on the trailer but the brake lights are not, this is normally a bad ground. The brake lights will have a constant draw on the system and this is normally when ground problems show up. You will want to check the grounds at the trailer lights and make sure they are attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface.

Also check the main trailer connector ground and the converter box ground. They, too, should be attached to a clean metal surface.

If the lights are still not working, disconnect the trailer and test the 4-Way pins with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if needed. If the signals are correct at the 4-Way, then you know the problem is on the trailer wiring somewhere. If the signals are not correct, test the wires that lead into the converter. If they are correct, then the converter is bad. If they are not correct, then there is a problem with the vehicle wiring.
