So the lifespan and when to change a lube plate doesn't have a hard and fast answer because there are numerous variables associated with how long it will last. The terrain you are going over, the weight of your trailer, and the frequency with which you use it are all really important and will impact how often you need to change it.

You will know it when you take a look though, as the signs of wear will be pretty obvious, from small tearing or cracks to uneven wear, you'll know that you need a new lube plate. If you're a regular to towing your 5th wheel though, replacing the lube plate once a season certainly won't hurt. As for the right one, you will want to get one that has the diameter needed to cover your skid plate, as well as the correct thickness. Hitch manufacturers will often point out to the proper thickness so you may want to check your owner's manual. You can then choose from either 10" or 12" diameter plates with either 1/8" or 3/8" thickness:

1/8" Thickness
- 10 Inch Diameter: Lube Plate # RP83002

3/8" Thickness:
- 10 Inch Diameter: Lube Plate # C16722
- 12 Inch Diameter: Lube Plate # 16721
