Is Heavy Duty Flasher Needed for Trailer Turn Signals with Wiring Harness 118496, 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

Hi, when I install the 118496 on my 2006 Tacoma can I expect the original equipped flasher module in the truck for the turn and emergency functions to operate correctly? Years ago my other vehicle needed a heavy duty flasher module to operate the extra power load of a trailer correctly I was using a simple pigtail connector spliced inline with the truck lights to run the trailer. Also, I believe the Tow Ready website shows max amps of stop/turn of 2.1A for each side and max tail total of 7.5A. Why do you show less on the max tail amps?

A heavy duty flasher is not needed. The trailer wiring harness # 118496 will operate the turn signals and other lights without issue provided the power draw from the lights does not exceed what the harness is rated for.

As for the amperage rating you are correct. The instructions also state that the capacity is 7.5 amps total for tail lights and 2.1 amps per side for the brake and turn signals.
